Biodiversity

For increased biodiversity on our planet

We are committed to protecting biodiversity on our planet as a fundamental prerequisite for an intact ecosystem. We, at HUGO BOSS, mainly incorporate natural raw materials such as cotton and wool, in our products. This, also, underlines our dependence on biodiversity. At the same time, our business activities, in particular, the production of raw materials and the manufacturing of our products, have an impact on the environment. Consequently, we have made biodiversity one of our priorities in sustainability management. We are committed to preserving biodiversity by taking measures such as reducing our emissions, implementing responsible chemical management, using more sustainable materials – for instance from regenerative agriculture, phasing out polyester and polyamide, closing materials cycles, and encouraging animal welfare. In order to be able to protect biodiversity at our company sites, we have conducted and commissioned comprehensive studies to evaluate and assess our direct impact. You can find an insight into the results for the Metzingen site here.

Our targets pay off on biodiversity

66%
of suppliers with a high environmental impact comply with our environmental requirements
Target by 2025: 100%
18% synthetic fibers in our product offering
Our goal by 2030: 0% polyester & polyamide
First BOSS products made of regenerative Raddis cotton launched in 2023
Our target by 2030: 100% natural materials sourced to regenerative principles or closed-loop recycling
42%
increase of CO2 emissions in the entire value chain (Scope 1-3, compared to 2019)
Target by 2050: Net Zero emissions. Despite extensive measures, we are not yet at the target achievement level we would like to be: Instead of a reduction in emissions, we are currently seeing an increase. This is related to the strong business development overall. We will therefore intensify our measures even further.
CONSERVING OUR FORESTS
Our forests are of great importance to people, the environment and animals. They preserve the global water and material cycles, the climate and the preservation of biological diversity. At the same time, they are also an important source of raw materials. Paper plays an important role in our packaging materials. In addition, wood is also a basic material for selected textiles: Fibers such as viscose, modal and lyocell are derived from wood. In collaboration with the environmental organization Canopy, we have therefore committed to protect the world’s ancient forests and support ending deforestation by sourcing these materials as sustainably as possible, by relying on optimized recycled content, certified sources and sustainable alternative solutions. We have set out our targets and measures in our Commitment to Protect Forests Through our Paper, Packaging and Fabrics Choices.

Biodiversity through a conscious selection of materials and processes

We care for animal welfare

We rely on more sustainable materials

We protect our climate

We promote regenerative farming

With our commitment to regenerative farming, we help protect biodiversity and thus long-term health of our planet. In addition, we promote fair working conditions on the farms.
